Alas Smith & Jones...
...alias my two lovely lodgers!
After a near miss on a roundabout this morning, entirely the other's fault I hasten to add, I had a most productive (read busy) day at work and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was asked to take on an urgent but discreet piece of work and it's the kind of challenge I like, if I have the time.
Fitted in a quick Waitrose shop on the way home in a torrential downpour, again. I actually have to shop at Waitrose actually as it's actually the only supermarket on my way home from work actually.
I've stocked up on lovely cheese for my weekend of guests and am really looking forward to hosting a different group of old school friends from my sixth form school, King's College. I've primed them all to bring the best '80s school photos they can find for a giggle...
My other lodger, J, got back from a month working in Delhi tonight. He'll be here for precisely one night then goes away again to Copenhagen for two weeks. (I asked him to say Hi to Sarah Lund but he didn't have a clue who I was taking about!) He really is very part time at mine. I try not to take offence, not hard as he continues to pay rent and is a very decent chap.
It's lovely to have a full house even for one night. It changes the dynamic in a good way. So we've caught up on news and there is a happy buzz downstairs right now as the two of them cook and catch up on work gossip (they work at the same place.)
Not sure how we got onto the subject but neither lodger had heard of 'inter railing' and I was shocked. We decided they weren't middle class enough to have done interrailling when they were in their late teens, whereas one of them is very middle class now! He did 25 years in the army and is living proof that the army is definitely an environment where people who want to can still climb the social ladder. He still swears like a squaddie though!
It'll be a pleasant evening but I do need to have an early night as I think I ought to get to work early tomorrow as I have too much to do in a day, especially as I'm taking some clients out for lunch and that could go on as it's a Friday and they're great company!
