Y5 Homework
The task:
During our maths lessons next week, we will be looking at shapes and their properties. Today we started to think about architecture and tried to make our own bridges in Maths. Your job is to think about what you learned from today's experience to design/build a more stable bridge, and identify the shapes that you have used or created within the structure you have made. You will have two weeks for this homework, so be creative!
On being asked about the shapes used, my daughter seized immediately on the triangle and without prompting extolled its virtue as a stable shape. The bridge structure was of her own design, with just a little prompting to think about the strongest, yet most practical way to join the two trusses together and lay a road surface.
The characters in the river made me chuckle, that is until I learned that the gentleman in the middle of the river is not swimming. My daughter confirmed that he is indeed drowning! When I proffered that the diver might be poised to leap to the poor man's rescue, the reply came instantly and as a decidedly matter-of-fact "No. He's just minding is own business."
Life can be cruel.
