Kampot

So I was up early this morning to catch the Kampot express - a ford transit van transporting 15 passengers from the crazy city of Phnom Penh to the calm Kampot. I got to the pick up point (in a petrol station) and was met by the lovely receptionist who was wearing a mask to prevent her breathing in fumes (a common sight here in the city) I found out how incredibly hard it is to have a conversation with someone wearing a mask!!
the 2.5 hours journey costing $8 went quite quickly as I ploughed on reading The Hunger games..

We arrived and I checked in to my hotel La Java Bleue
And was welcomed by Donna the Manager, a lovely Aussie from Newcastle (NSW) and taken to my room - The Kampot room - with its fabulous bed. I headed out to explore and popped in to the epic arts cafe - an NGO that Hannah from Amrita used to work at - for sushi lunch and possibly the best chocolate brownie I've ever had.

I had a wander round town taking various photos and found that Irish bars really do get everywhere!

Back to the hotel for a sumptuous swordfish dinner (freshly caught that morning) prepared by the French chef Jean-Claude with whom I had a franglais type conversation!

I met a couple Steve and Tracie from
Melbourne and discovered that I will be doing tomorrow's afternoon boat trip with them.

Tomorrow morning is currently unplanned!!

I'm loving Kampot already it has a real charm to it green, relatively peaceful and with a river running through it :-)
