An anachronism

At the tourist mecca that is the Waterfront at Cape Town is a working dry dock. It's been there since the 1880s and still makes a good living. There were two ships being repaired and painted. It was good to see the cranes on either side rumbling along their tracks carrying blokes in cradles below who were painting the ship.

There is a local connection for me. On the side of the adjacent craft centre is an old sign just saying Cowans Sheldon Cranes. They built cranes in Carlisle for many years and exported them all over the world until the firm closed. It would be good if the two in the picture were of that lineage but I couldn't find the makers name anywhere. Only the date of 1987 on one of the cross girders. This was the year Cowans closed so it's unlikely.
