Dental visit

Fear of dentists is very common. Let's face it -- going to the dentist is not fun; dentists poke and prod in sensitive areas. I should be desensitized from all my visits over the years and yet it never seems to get easier.
Today I had to go see the dentist for some swelling on my gum and the result was a prescription for antibiotics and a return visit in two weeks. When I was child, one dentist tried to give me laughing gas to calm my anxiety. I had a bad reaction and I screamed bloody murder instead of laughing. He told my parents he could not work on me unless I took a sedative before returning. He was mean! I just needed a dentist that was sympathetic to my fears. The one I have now is much better. He knows I am a big baby! He explains everything he is going to do before he does it and is always asking me if I am doing ok during the work.
When I was leaving the office after my exam I took this photo with my camera phone. As you can see, it’s a brightly colored room and it even has a big window. I will be brave in two weeks…I really will.
A dentist is working on a female patient’s teeth when he asks her if she’d mind screaming loudly. She does so then asks why. ‘I’ve got to catch a train in thirty minutes,’ he replies. ‘And my waiting room is packed.’
