Taking risks

Taking risks

Yes I know this photo is a photo of another photo but it's a photo I love and a photo given to me by a dear friend so it's a special photo too- I was wondering then how many times I could fit the word photo into one sentence then so sorry......

Anyway, the reason I've chosen this as my photo of the day is that I was given this print by a friend at Christmas time, she's a dear long term friend and a while ago we had a conversation about how much we loved this image, the energy it created and the admiration for the bravery of others, something we both admire in people who take risks to do something amazing.

It's a great photo, a point in history, during a time of great development in New York and it's simplicity of depicting an everyday occurrence of a lunch break for construction workers and turning into an iconic image. Is that not what great photography is all about? Capturing the normal and turning into an image you want to keep looking at for years to come.

We both felt we wanted to know more about these amazing individuals who took a huge risk of death everyday and still risked their lives to support their families and be part of the workforce.

I chose this image as I had my own discussion about risk today and realised how corporate I has become in my views, how risk adverse I had become and how I longed to break out of this way of thinking and to be set free again to have my own thoughts and views. To be able to take some calculated risks to get what I want on life. Risk to me is about calculating it and knowing that in order to live life to the full!
