"birthday cake"

Yes I made this cake, yes it took ages to decorate, and no I didn't count how many malteasers were used!! The answer would be....A LOT!!!!!

It's taken me a few years to find my love for baking but this was definitely my biggest challenge to date! But it was a self-set challenge.

Phil turned 25 this week and as a small celebration, No.6 was full of laughter again as some of the old crew gathered for some nibbles, drinks and general catching up.

Earlier in the week I'd decided to make Phil a birthday cake. What type of cake I had yet to decide so I turned to Lorraine Pascale for a 'showstopper' worthy cake idea and found her 'Let them eat cake' cake!!! Her version was completely covered in malteasers but I realised that if I covered the top of the cake with malteasers, then there would be no room for candles! haha!! Cue a crazy amount of buttercream icing to the rescue!

I know that self praise is no praise but I'm very pleased with how this cake turned out, especially as a first attempt!! :)
