On the Edge

Catching the light, the minuscule droplets of dew carried on the long slender stalks, spore capsules and leaves, positively sparkled under the occasional flashes of sunlight this morning. The entire plant is only Icm tall so you can see the scale of the dewdrops.

Living life on the edge, this cushion moss was on our terrace table outside, so very delicate but conversely so very hardy! Positively thriving on walls, old bits of brick and concrete it is a very common species but how often do we actually look at the detail? Difficult to identify without a magnifying glass, they lack roots and bear simple leaves. Quite a primitive plant but up close and personal I think they are incredibly attractive.

A little bit of an SP going on in the reflection - the small orange glow at the base of the drop is the flash from the camera.
