Lister

Samuel Cunliffe Lister owned the mill whose chimney still dominates the skyline of Bradford. The mill manufactured velvet and I remember when I got married in the 70's, velvet curtains were very popular and much of the velvet you could buy originated here. The mill is now apartments but the chimney, as you can see on the right, still stands proud.

At the bottom of this street is Lister Park, home of the popular Park runs and Cartwright Hall. The park and hall were a gift from Lister to Bradford. The hall hosts art exhibitions and the park is a great asset to the people of Bradford. It is well kept and here on the right you can see the deciduous shrubs being kept in good shape.

We were here this morning for a blip visit courtesy of airedaleknitter, and together with Yorkshirebred and Corinthian Column we had a pleasant walk around the park in the January sun and a look around the hall's exhibits.

We got back just as the sky turned black and the heavens opened so it was very well timed.

Thank you J for the idea and the transport.
