Tad's a bottom.
The funniest thing about this time was that I started getting emails from people - tongue in cheek, of course - telling me that Tad needed to play around a bit before settling down with Frank. In the college strips, Tad was single for a long time, but by this point I'd been with my husband for several years and wanted to get to relationship jokes. In hindsight, trying to shoehorn in the college jokes into the Big City paper wasn't wise - so many of them just feel off. When I restart the strip this summer it will definitely be all-new jokes, which is terrifying. Is a forty year old Tad funny? Shouldn't they have had kids by now? Or maybe now with 12 states and counting legalizing marriage, the time for a strip about gay men getting married after being together forever is a good fit. We'll see.
(Minor thing - you can tell by the hands that I had more time to draw this strip than usual; the standard is to give your characters four fingers instead of five because less to draw, and too many fingers and you get weird confusing lines, too few and it's distracting. Studies have shown that people will accept characters with four fingers but never three, and five makes them uncomfortable - seriously! But having said all of that, having four fingers makes some things, like a base ten counting system, or the simple act of clasping your hands, look a little weird.)
