June in January

What a lovely sunny day. After the last few grey days the sky looked so blue . It was actually warm enough for me to take my jacket off as we walked along the shore footpath in Avoch. Someone was fiddling about on one of the rafts. I wondered if they were cleaning it ready for when the terns return.
While Mike took some post to the Fortrose Post office I walked around the Cathedral. It's often missed by visitors as it's hidden behind the High Street but it is well worth a visit. There is only part of the red sandstone Cathedral left standing, the chapter house, seen on the right, and the nave's south aisle with the chapel. It was finished around 1300. The site was chosen by the Bishop Robert after permission was granted by Pope Gregory IX to reform and enlarge the cathedral chapter. Further additions were added during the 1400's.
After the reformation in 1560 the Cathedral ceased to be used and Lord Ruthven was given permission to remove the lead from the roof . Oliver Cromwell removed some of the stone to use to build Cromwells citadel on the banks of the River Ness.
The site is now looked after by Historic Scotland.

Just watching the sun go down and about to make Shepherds pie as David would say 'Red Sky, Shepherds pie'.
