Round and Round the Garden ...... 2
This is Louis, aka the Green Man. He’s named because he’s really looking at you which brought to mind “Here’s looking at you, kid” from the film Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart. It’s one of the most quoted-from films in cinematic history, another favourite being "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship." And that’s the kind of thing you’d say to a man with eyes like this! So Louis it is. He lives with the fruit trees for company, just outside the kitchen door, and so far appears very happy. I’m not sure I’d like to see him cross!
There’s a nice bit of trivia about “Here’s looking at you, kid” – although this line appears several time in the movie, it does not appear in any of the draft screen plays. It’s attributed to something Humph said to Ingrid Bergman when he was teaching her to play poker between scenes.
Here’s where my husband would say, Gee Whizz!
(he calls these’ gee whizz’ facts)
So here’s another one, just for him.
The ending of the film Casablanca was a foregone conclusion as it was against the Production Code (moral code set by the censors of the day) to show a woman leaving her husband for another man. Humph was never going to get the gal, but they would always have Paris!
Gee Whizz!
