working the kinks out

This is a nuthatch, and usually they are seen hanging head down on the trunk of a tree with their heads arched in the upright position.
So I thought it was unusual to see one perched in a "normal" position with its neck "at ease."
The feathers do look a bit kinked up, don't you think?
