Morning Sunshine
The morning sunshine on the Gillis Centre looked great this morning. It was soon replaced by rain but I didn't mind that as I was first in the National Gallery to look at the Turner watercolours and then the Academy for the RSA exhibition. I then went to the Fruitmarket Gallery to see the insomnia paintings by Louise Bourgeois. It was all very interesting and as usual I learnt a lot. I discovered more about Turner even though I have now seen those paintings at least 12 times. It just proves that there is always something new to discover in an artwork and that is why art is so appealing. The same works for music, I can listen to the same piece again, and again, and again and I will still discover new phrases or turns in the music.
On my way to swimming I started musing about trends. Someone decides that a certain colour will be the colour of the year for instance. Someone else then decides what the fashion trend should be, short skirts vs long skirts, flared vs skinny jeans etc. etc. The same for houses, I was handed lots if editions of Home & Interior and there again someone decides which kitchen will be trend for the next so and so many months or years. Where has the individual style gone? why are we slaves to other people's ideas? Why are we not happy with what we have got?
My challenge of not buying clothes is giving me time to think about part of the above, I have so much more than I need and can effortlessly combine it all without ever wearing the same combination twice so far and still I am looking At sales items here there and everywhere. I admire other people's stuff that they display on their shelves in those above-mentioned magazines and then realise that similar things reside in boxes in my house too, I just haven't displayed them properly.
I will make a go at finding some of those treasures in my house and perhaps I'll blip them.
