Gas-P!
A liter of regular gas in Istanbul costs 5.02TL or US$2.26 or $8.55 per US gallon at today's exchange rate. This is better than the $9.55 per gallon in September. That said, it still takes 30% of an average person's daily wage to buy a gallon of gas. (See Gas Prices for country comparisons.)
The only reason the price in dollar terms has gone down is that the government has yet to raise taxes to reflect the fall in the lira over the past few weeks. Remember that wages have not gone up as the lira has gone down. Everything is more expensive for people living here. BUT, come and visit Turkey. You are richer here than ever ... as long as you don't drive a car ;)
