Stewards of The Lungs of Istanbul
I am lucky enough to work on a 65 acre (26.5 hectare) campus in the heart of a megapolis of 15 million (or 13 or 17 ... we have lost count). There are few buildings, only those for classes and housing; however the majority of the steep campus on the slopes between the Bosphorus and a district called Ulus is populated by greenery. Shrubs, trees, vines, undergrowth - all glorious.
Today, it drizzled and sprinkled and brought the vibrant greens to life. How sad I could not capture the scent of loam and green. Take a look at the photo, close your eyes and think of that wonderful smell of an early Spring day. That was today.
Robert College is a steward of these lungs of Istanbul. No one should ever take these away from our posterity, the future generations of a great city. Breathe well tonight.
