Now is a Good Time ....
This is a row of 3 cottages in the most romantic spot at Stedham . The river winds in picturesque fashion and there is an attractive old bridge. I tried to get round last week to see how they had fared but the lane half a mile away was flooded, I couldn’t get through.
We were interested in buying them to renovate before we moved to our present house – the end cottage away from the road was in liveable condition and we thought – in spite of earlier protestations to the contrary – we might live there and ‘do up’ yet another house. The risk was that the renovations could easily have got out of hand and we would have been strapped for cash to finish them. But then came the crunch. I found out that the cottages had been flooded about 5 years previously. Today there are signs that they managed to keep the water out of the gardens and house, even though it had risen well over the road we were standing on, and signs that the cottages had found a new owner. Good! I like to see buildings getting the tender loving care they need, even if not from me. Still had a bit of a pang at what might have been, but I've since been learning to live much more for Now - hence the poem below.
The bridge has a West Sussex County sign dated 1912, stating that no locomotive is allowed to stand on any part of this county bridge.
Working hard. A car load of ‘stuff’ to the dump, another to the local saleroom. Still have another load to go to the charity shop, St Richards Hospice in Chichester. Slowly slowly getting rid of 40 years worth of clutter. Oh the memories ....
Reminder to Self - NOW IS A GOOD TIME
When yesterday’s gone and tomorrow is near
Why look for a thing when it’s already here
And tell me you never once asked yourself how
Some people end up in the middle of the now
And now is the beat of the feet on the floor
Now is the then we are all waiting for
It’s the strike of the luck, it’s the go with the flow
It’s to share in the luck with the people we know
A wise fool once said, kinda out of the blue
That life is a dream that’s already come true
It’s less of the what and the where and the how
It’s more of the you and the me …. and the now.
