An Adaptable, Beautiful, Desert Critter
I was nearly home when I spotted a brood of about seven playful cottontails out of the corner of my eye. After stopping the car, I realized that I needed to change the lens on the camera. Lordy! Bunnies, please stick around while I fumble with this, I thought to myself.
All but this cutie had scampered away by the time I was able to get close enough.
When I got this picture in the computer, I was awed at its spectacular natural colors. He is really one of God's beautiful creatures! Maybe you have to be a desert dweller to fully appreciate the subtly, but he is perfectly adapted to life in the desert. (Not much contrast here overall, but that's the point.)
Compare his colors, too, to the stones in the neighborhood. These cottontails are completely compatible with life here, too, and are frequent visitors to our yards - and to the chagrin of some, our gardens.

PS Did you notice that even our Cottontails have "hidden" tails as an adaptation?
