We decided to take the long route back to Prince Albert . Eight hours instead of five and a half, but worth it as the landscape is richly varied. From the wheat fields of the Riviersonderend area to the flowing Gamka River of the Tradeau Pass; the incredible height of the Swartberg Pass with the patchwork fields of the farms of the Oudthoorn area far below. At "Die Top" at the top of the Swartberg Pass, endless space with vistas of distant blue mountains hundreds of miles away.
No time to stop, so taken through the window of a fast moving car, I am delighted to have captured for this blip some of the essence of that landscape that was so loved by artist, Eric Laubscher. Having seen his beautiful paintings we see the landscape through his eyes.
