Kings Cross

I have memories of Kings Cross Railway Station going back to childhood, when we had occasional visits to London. Then right through student days and beyond, I have waited for trains to Leeds and Bradford. I have stood in the entrance hall so many times, with all the other would-be passengers, staring up at the huge information board waiting for a platform number to appear. Recently the entrance concourse was moved and transformed. It has the amazing ceiling that has been blipped many times. Unrecognisable. But still everyone waits and stares up at the board waiting for a platform number!

Now the exterior has being transformed also. Originally built in 1852 as the London hub of the Great Northern Railway, the building has been totally renovated over the last few years. Extensions and other buildings added on over the years have been demolished to reveal the original station façade for the first time in 150 years. It was positively glowing in the sun this morning.
