Volunteering
I don't start my new job for a couple of weeks but I was invited to their volunteering day. They have one every year and it seemed like it would be a nice informal way to get to meet people, especially as there's loads of people I won't meet often as they'll be at the main office.
It was a really nice day. We went to Juipiter Artland, it was more of a jolly than a work day to be honest. In the morning we did a couple of hours weeding the flowerbeds down at the duckpond. After lunch the head Gardener gave us a tour of the artworks. It was really interesting, it seems he builds a lot of the artists pieces.
The piece in the photo is new since I last visited. You walk through the woods and find an area fenced off, surrounded by a hedge. A large area of obsidian pieces with a narrow path leading down into the ground. At the bottom of the path the area widened into an open topped cave of Amethyst of various grades! Beautiful! Unfortunately they have a problem with people breaking bits off. The artist previously has created works that are designed to "self destruct" as it were so they have to continually add more to it. I wish we could have seen the heap of spare bits they have hidden away somewhere.
