Exploding cattails

I'm not sure why I've always been attracted to dried cattails, but I just love the way they are literally bursting with energy, even as they lie dormant.

These cattails were particularly striking, since the whole marsh was backlit when I rode by it.

I continue to be grateful for moments of aesthetic wonder in the midst of my mountain bike adventures - this one in Annadel State Park, Santa Rosa, CA.
