At home: Winter....

This is the sight of winter. Our house is heated almost just with plum wood. We managed to source a felled orchard, which has provided us with cheap winter fuel. It was a huge effort to get it all stored and put away and keeping it dry from the relentless rain is proving to be a project on its own.

I understand how a squirrel must feel, guarding its protected winter stash. There is also something very rewarding about getting through the winter on a simplistic level. Yes. Its hard work, chopping, shifting and stacking wood. The heat from the wood burner quickly travels around the house. Its lit almost all the time, pushing the cold back threw the bricks. The heat holds, temporarily perhaps through the night. The embers glowing by breakfast. A tinder piece of dried bark becomes a new flame of heat for a new day. Winter, and so it goes on....x
