Leithsdottir
Out and about in Leith this morning, doing some errands, when suddenly the Icelandic flag flickered into view. It's not a common sight down this way, and so I wound my way through the back streets until I tracked it to Lamb's House, and to my surprise, the Icelandic Consulate.
There's a plaque on Lamb's House which reads: "On the 19th August 1561 Queen Mary...at ten hours her hieness landed upon the shore of Leith. Because the palace of Holyroodhouse was not thoroughly put in order...she remained in Andrew Lamb's House in Leith till towards the evening, and then repaired thither."
That was a whole load of new stuff today. I shall aim to use the phrase "repair thither" at the next available opportunity.
