Doha Days
The penultimate day of my first week here was an interesting one. We had a minor electrical fault in a water cooler in the corridor that caused a small fire and the subsequent evacuation of all the students and staff . It was dealt with swiftly and I was impressed by the pupils and staff's reaction to this emergency. Later I had to go to the most impressive hospital I have ever seen, for Qatari State employment and residency medicals. My blip shows the atrium of this hospital with its dowh sail effect blinds adding a touch of history to such a modern building in an incredibly young city. As I was waiting for my X-ray I was served tea from a gilded trolley while relaxing on a series of throne like benches. The tv channel was breaking the news that the Football World Cup will be played here in the winter in 2022. How anyone could ever imagine it being played in the summer here, even with full air conditioned stadia, totally defeats me. Looking forward to the weekend tomorrow!
