At Home: Nooooooo Eva!
Little Eva has been here a week now. There is, I realise very little difference in having a new born child and a small puppy. The key to sanity and success of both is a mixture of routine, cuddles, time, and love, oh and lots of fresh air and exercise. Eva, the puppy at 9 weeks must be like at the 10 month age of a human toddler. Exploring and tasting everything.
Eva, however is led by the huge bunch of senses on the end of her nose. I read that a dogs sense of smell is between 10,000 and 100,000 more acute than a humans. So I realise that this is her only motivation in life. Smell and taste. Those two things lead to the action of everything else.
Its about survival too. I am guessing that she operates like all the other animals around here in that regard. The person who issues or controls the food source gets the most respect. Like I suppose in a wolf pack, a horse herd, even human group.
Little Eva has the worry of survival and food source sorted. The routine has made it firm in her mind that this happens regularly and without fail. The only other concern on her mind is smelling and tasting. Eva brings much of what she discovers to us. Thats the retriever in her. It would be easy to switch this part off, with lots of "Noooooo's". I am guessing that this is where puppy training comes in, to refine the puppies talents with human behaviour.
A great partnership begins....x
