Maelstrom
After another 1 inch of rain overnight the day continued with storm force winds and just a few showers.
The wind picked up around the afternoon high tide producing some awe inspiring seas and enormous waves breaking over the sea walls. I found a sheltered gully overlooking Freshwater Bay which gave shelter from the incredibly powerful wind and sea spray to picture the turmoil between Freshwater Bay and the Needles.
The noise of the shingle in the bay being dragged around was like a jet engine at full power. Fortunately people were being sensible and keeping well away from the showers of stone and timber being hurled from the beach. In my time on the Island I have never seen waves this high.
Some people have said they can see the face of neptune in one of the waves.
Needs to be seen in Large I think.
