Sunshine at Saint Edward Park

While the rest of the U.S. is suffering through low temperatures and foul weather, the Seattle area has been unseasonably dry. Even though it has been cold to the point of frost, our skies have been clear. Today we hiked around the north shore of Lake Washington in and around St. Edward Park. The park was the home of a seminary that was built on a bluff above the lake in the 1930's. There are some deep canyons going down to the lake and lots of trails. Most of the forest is Douglas Fir, Red Cedar, Bigleaf Maple, Pacific Madrone and Western Hemlock with a carpet of sword fern. However, we came across this stand of poplars or birch (not quite sure).

Great day to be out and about. We logged about 9 miles. When we do the England Coast to Coast walk this summer, we'll average about 12 miles so we are working towards that goal.
