A nip of Glengoyne

I was chuffed to find that the hotel bar stocked Glengoyne.

I first tasted Glengoyne at the distillery near Killearn, aged about 25. The visit to the distillery and surrounding area was arranged by the (then) Scottish Office Induction Network. The network was a mechanism by which new recruits could meet other colleagues and become familiar with a wider range of (then pre-devolution) responsibilities of the Scottish Office beyond the policy area in which they had been plonked - for me, writing the fisheries bits of the 1998 Scotland Act. We learned about local enterprise structures, but also had a glorious taste of the single malt.

To date, Glengoyne remains my favourite whisky, but it's not often I come across it in bars. The other notable success of the Induction Network was to introduce me to my husband. He's also a favourite.
