Winter Comforts

The Tontine Hotel on the High Street in Peebles is a local landmark. It was built between 1806 and 1808 by French prisoners of war, and its steps are at the same height as Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. Inside it has the Adam Room Restaurant - a beautiful Georgian Assembly Room, with a minstrel’s gallery. I particularly like the Tontine in the festive season when it is lit up outside and when you can go inside and relax in an armchair warmed by a coal fire. One of my resolutions for 2014 is to go there for an afternoon tea!
