Protective Nuts
I'm interested in large scale health studies and I think it's worth passing on the results of a recent Harvard report. The study found that people who ate a daily handful of nuts were 20% less likely to die over a 30-year period than were those who didn't. Also regular nut-eaters were found to be slimmer than non nut-eaters, debunking the myth that eating them leads to being overweight. It's all the drinking accompanying nuts that piles on the pounds, I suspect!
The short article in Science Daily gives all the detail, but basically nuts reduce risk of heart disease and cancer, and it does not seem to matter what kind of nut - almonds to walnuts, and everything in between.
The picture shows a great nutcracker for walnuts that stops the shell from making a mess as all the cracked bits drop into the bowl. It was handmade in India and I got it from Natural Collection - a superb company which specialises in ethical gifts, gadgets and groceries. So get more nuts into your diet and live longer!
