The Harshness of Fall

Here is another autumn themed shot for a photography challenge. My goal in these shots is to stay away from the classic foliage landscape and look for different ways to feature the coming of winter.

I chose this picture because I like the interesting contrast between the beauty of the bright red leaf and the harshness of the barbed wire. I chose a more distant perspective and tried to compose the image so you could see the path of the wire and the barb and support post in the background. I also played with aperture to keep the leaf sharp and blur the rest.

The interesting thing about the shot is that I saw the leaf from a distance and thought that it was some kind of fluorescent tag on the fence. The color was that stunning. It was only when I came closer that I realized that it was this beautiful leaf that had been speared.


Post processing:
Minor tweaks in DPP including contrast, shadow, saturation and tone
PS work to tweak the brightness
