The Entertainment

Well not quite but I reckon it won't be long. This is the first year the kids have officially* been up with us to see in the new year. After an early party where we introduced them to two rounds of the name game (describing and charades) and fed them they retreated upstairs to watch movies and generally hang out before reappearing in time for the countdown, auld lang syne and party poppers. The embarrassing alternative of staying downstairs listening to their parents and assorted other grown-ups talking nonsense was joyously not appealing to them.

The new year started with a name game for the grown-ups at which we were considerably more shabby than the kids. Then a few hours in bed.

Heavy and persistent rain thwarted the traditional New Year's Day walk so instead of blowing cobwebs away we have slowly tidied, eaten and caught up on some Christmas TV our way through the day. In most excellent company.

A very happy way to start 2014.
