Friday Hike to Jalapa

Following a steep and winding bus journey high into the Sierra Sur, we hiked DOWNHILL on a dirt road from the village of Cienequilla to the village of Jalapa. Tucked away in this lush valley were small farms with fields of beans, peas, squash, and corn. People were herding cows and goats, and they all waved as a gaggle of gringos passed by.
This is a view looking back toward the city of Oaxaca in the far distance. In front of that on the right are mountains topped by the archaeological sites of Monte Albán and Atzompa.
