“We apologise for the inconvenience”

Our day in London became a half day (just!) as, because of anticipated high winds, all South Eastern trains going through Sevenoaks in the morning were cancelled. We tried in the afternoon and after waiting for ‘delayed’ and ‘cancelled’ trains, we eventually got one that would take us (slowly) to London Bridge. We then had a pleasant and interesting walk along the Southbank and made it to Tate Modern for an exhibition of Paul Klee’s work. This was fascinating and now I have another big book to ponder over - as if I hadn't got enough! This picture is taken from the third floor of Tate Modern at the end of the afternoon. Looking across the river to St Paul’s, you can see people on the Millennium Bridge. Look large for a better view.

Our delay meant that we missed our slot for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Natural History Museum, but I am hoping to re-schedule that.

We walked back to the station as it was getting dark and the lights were coming on. Quite magical. And then the fun began!

Trains were again ‘delayed’ and ‘cancelled', except this time no one seems to have any idea exactly which trains were ‘delayed’ or ‘cancelled’ or which trains were actually running. We were sent from one platform to another three times, as were other people wanting other lines. Quite comical really, except that it wasn’t really funny as we wondered whether we were ever going to get back. Eventually a ‘cancelled’ train arrived and we were on our way to Sevenoaks.

Tomorrow we head north and home. We’ve had a great week, despite the weather, and have obviously not suffered from it in the same way as others have.
