Framing the Fort

Blowing away the cobwebs

And, just like that, the storm abated.

I had an inkling it might last night, as we weren't wakened by the wind rattling the windows as we had been the night before. Gairloch, home to horizontal rain for much of the previous week, was bathed in blue sky and apologetic sunshine. We had a lazy morning and then went out for a walk.

There's a balance to be struck, for the photographer with a family, isn't there! My son saw my camera case peeking out from my jacket pocket and instructed me to put in back in the house! Instead, I promised to take some photos and then put the camera away.

And that's (mostly) what I did. I took quite a few shots, and then put the camera away as promised. I took it out to get a few more shots and then, conscious of my promise, put it away with an air of finality. I remarked to my Mrs Geek, as we walked arm in arm, that I needed to accept that there'd often be great light, and I needed to be careful not to let my obsessive side take over, as it'd upset the kids. She nodded, and then turned to watch them playing in the sand...and then said "you should probably look at the light behind you now, though". I demurred initially, but she said "No. seriously" rather firmly...so I did.

I'm rather glad I listened!

Back in Aberdeen now, but delighted to have had a relaxing Christmas. I traveled after putting the Geeklets to bed, so feel I got the full Boxing Day experience too. Mrs Geek arrives with a van tomorrow, so we even get a couple of cheeky child-free evenings so we can get to the flicks (to see something other than the Disney/Pixar fare;-)

How do other Blippers deal with balancing photography with spending time with family and friends?
