BAD DAY to be a BIRD - PART III
We finally have access to the internet so I can blip again! We were without power for one entire day – our inside temp. was about 53 degrees F (11.6 C). The power came on during the night - it was wonderful to wake to a warm house. We were among the lucky ones – thousands are still without electricity, and may not get it until Saturday (which is nearly a week without). Imagine all the Christmas plans (company and food, etc.) that just couldn’t happen. As for the internet, Comcast, which is our provider, was ‘down’ until today, so as a result we didn’t have internet ability or house phones.
This ice storm is the contrast of beauty and the beast! The trees and shrubs glisten like a fairyland; however, ice-laden trees & limbs are causing all kinds of damage when they fall. I was refilling the bird feeders when a large branch high above me cracked and broke. The shattered ice that fell was like glass shards. This pretty little house finch looks a bit Christmas-y by the red berries. There’s an ice-encrusted evergreen bough on Flickr.
I’ve back-posted blips for 12/22 and 12/23 if you care to have a look. I call them “A Bad Day to be a Bird, Parts I & II. I took pictures through a window for Part I – the day we didn’t have heat, and we didn’t want to lose any heat by opening doors. (Interestingly, the windows have mini-blinds between the panes of glass, but the camera focused to the distance and the blinds don’t even show - although the pictures are very cloudy).
I'm looking forward to seeing your blips from the last few days. I'll try to catch up with comments in a day or two. MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
