I can't think of a title for today's photo. And I don't think it really needs one.

I cried a lot.

Today many of my family (parents, sisters, nieces and nephews) and I met in Palmerston then drove out to Bushey to erect a cross at the site of the accident that killed Blaze.

It was a seriously hard day. In many ways harder than his funeral service. Two months since his death it is a lot more real than it was a week after he was killed.

I had contacted the landowner of the farm beside the road and he gave me permission to erect the cross on his fence - I really appreciate this as it means that it will remain there and won't be moved in the future if there are any roadworks. It also makes it more visible as, although the fence is at the bottom of a ditch, we were able to mount it higher.

As much as it can be on a state highway with traffic whizzing past a 110kmh, it is a lovely setting. The field of barley behind the fence was making a beautiful murmuring as it moved in the wind. A lovely sound. And the wind was creating beautiful patterns as it moved across the field. Blaze would have loved seeing it.

After we had mounted the cross, we all took a few moments to talk to Blaze and those of us who felt it was appropriate left him a stone or rock - he wasn't a flowers sort of guy and he liked rocks - like me he would pick them up wherever he went. Although he has got some flowers too. There are poppies growing wild along the roadside and someone picked one and poked it through the middle of his cross, giving it a look I felt was reminiscent of Anzac day.

We had taken all sorts of equipment with us - not knowing in advance how it would be best to put the cross up. I took a bag of instant concrete which we hadn't needed so my brother-in-law suggested we create a 'plaque' at the top of the ditch and write his name in the concrete. It was a beautiful idea - thank you Mike.

After I had written his name it felt right to press my fingerprint into it too. Then I asked everyone else who was there to do the same - so we have left a little of ourselves with him. Beautiful. Emotional. Heart-rending.

Thank you so much to everyone who took part today. It was important to Blaze and i that you be there.

Thank you to Dad and Mike who did most of the work!
