Aoraki Mount Cook

I took SO many photos today.

On leaving Fairlie I stopped at Burkes Pass, Lake Tekapo, Lake Pukaki, Twizel and Omarama before finally arriving at Lake Benmore.

On the basis that this holiday should be about doing new things as well as old things, I took a drive up the Fairlie side of Lake Tekapo - I've never been far up there before.  Then when I got to Lake Pukaki I did the same thing - going up the Lake and the Tekapo Canal to the road end.  I stopped there for lunch, sitting on the back step of the van just absorbing the peace and the colours.

Fantastic scenery everywhere I looked.  So I had to photograph it all.  With so many photos to choose from today it has been hard, so in the end I've gone with a rather iconic image of Aoraki Mount Cook presiding over Lake Pukaki.  I did have a variety of scenic 'interest' in the foreground of each photo but have decided to go for simplicity in the end so as not to detract from the essentials - namely the mountain and the colour of the lake.

The last few times I've been through here the mountain has been shrouded in cloud so it was nice to see her so clearly today.
