Eco Village at Cloughjorden

I'm staying with friends who have designed and built a house in the Eco Village in Cloughjorden, this innovative project has just won the United Nations Sustainable Community Award. Despite the howling wind we did a tour of the allotments, the community farm, the woodland planting, the district heating system and the wood fired bakery. We helped ourselves to the abundance of vegetables and raw milk at the farm shop. People from the project and locals from the village are invited to pay 20 euros a week and they can have as much meat, milk and vegetables as they like. We looked at the fifty or so houses that have been built. There are quite a variety of styles and they all have very high ratings for energy efficiency.
