Buteo regalis
What better way to celebrate the end of the semester than with a one-on-one visit with the Little Bunting in the morning and my second-ever Ferruginous Hawk in the afternoon? No better way, me thinks!
The Ferruginous Hawk is rare to our area but regularly occurring in winter. It's the largest North American hawk and comes in multiple color morphs, this one being the lighter of them. The coloring is exquisite on this species, which I'd never seen until a few weeks ago. Also out in the Ferndale bottoms today were Red-Tailed and Red-Shouldered Hawks, as well as White-Tailed Kites. Happiness is hawking the day away.
Another look at my ferry tail come true.
