Night Walk

I walked to New Seasons, where I met Eric. I gave myself just enough time, an hour and fifteen minutes, to arrive at 6:45. But when I left the house, it was raining, so I went back inside and grabbed a big umbrella figuring I'd have pretty wet jeans if I didn't. Then a block later it stopped, so there I was carrying the big old thing. I could've gone back to leave it, but I was intent on walking rapidly and in not being late. Then I found that my right sock would slip down into my boot, there was something inside my jeans that was pricking my right buttock, and there was something uncomfortable in my right sock toe. But I kept walking, didn't want to stop. I've been reading Atonement and kept thinking about that long, tortuous walk to Dunkirk. My irritations were nothing.
