The next train on...

Despite appearances Paisley's busiest railway station is not a converted castle but a purpose built Victorian treasure. It opened in July 1840 and serves destinations between Glasgow, Ayr, Greenock, Gourock and the oh so romantic bost train to Weymss Bay.

At one time it formed the northern side of a harmonious Victorian square redolent of medieval castles but in the late 1960s the eastern edge was pulled down. Instead an early example of a shopping mall or piazza was created though it was closer to a wind tunnel than an Italian square.
