Not Porty People and Places
The magnificent east window at Gloucester Cathedral is framed by the fine fan vautling. While the masses pursued mammon round the shopping aisles of the city in a lemming like rush towards Christmas Day we pushed our grandson round the stunning empty aisles of this great Medieval cathedral. He was transfixed by the manger scene - with its empty crib until Christmas morning. Outside, the scaffolding that has clothed the cathedral for years had finally gone enabling the full glory of the exterior to be seen to best advantage. The flag on the top of the lantern tower fluttered at half mast in respect of Nelson Mandela. A memorial service in Madiba's memory takes place here this evening.
