Moonlit ash
It was one of those days when I was very busy, but didn't seem to get that much done. The day started by taking Alex out to Stibbington Pit, where he spent the morning helping to manage an area of willow carr, before a volunteer's celebration Christmas lunch of vermin stew (rabbit, venison and pigeon he thinks) which was apparently delicious. He also had the opportunity to try roast squirrel, (fresh road-kill) which was also very tasty. After lunch there was a quiz, and Alex was in the winning team. He was very surprised by how much he knew about wildlife - presumably absorbed over the years as he never appears to put much deliberate effort into learning about it!
After taking Rosie out along the river, which was grey and dank, I headed out to Collyweston to have lunch with two home-educating friends. It was great to catch up with their lives. Now that the boys are older and pursuing their education at college or elsewhere, we don't see each other very much. As I was driving out there the sun had broken through the fog, but as we left the pub the fog came rolling back in, so no chance of an atmospheric sunset!
After visiting Sainsbury's I decided it might be interesting to try and capture some light trails in the fog, so before dinner Pete and I went out to the road bridge near Thorpe Wood. Although I captured some successful trails, they looked pretty much like every other light trail image, and in the end I much preferred this image of the misty moon, taken while we were walking through the wood. This ash tree is in an area that had been coppiced recently, which is how I was able to get a clean silhouette.
