mysterious happenings

When I first saw some tracks leading to a dug up spot, I thought it was a crazy squirrel trying to hide a nut.
But then I realized there were no set of tracks leading away from the spot.
Either the squirrel is a superior jumper (there is a tree nearby) or the track maker can fly.
So what really happened here?
Are these tracks leading away from a place that a bird swooped down onto something, then took a few steps, and flew off again?
Or do we have a Mighty Flying Squirrel in the neighborhood?
An inquiring mind wants to know!
