Another Winter Visitor?
On a major flight
path, Yuma offers so much
to birders all year.
Birding in Yuma, and in Arizona in general, is big business. It has brought in over a billion dollars in revenue to the state in any given year. In 2006, for example, 1.3 million people came to Arizona to observe wild birds. That's a lot of travel, accommodations, food and equipment expenses....
Yuma is located on the Colorado River arm of the Pacific Flightway. Birds of every description use this route to migrate from north to south and south to north.
This jaunty fellow arrived in my neighbour's orange tree this afternoon. I think it might be a vireo, a bird I don't recognize from back home.
