Small tortoiseshell rescue

This Small tortoiseshell butterfly appeared on our windowsill this morning. Here you see it uncurling its proboscis as it senses the litte dish of sugar solution I've left near it. As I write this it is still drinking and looking a bit less wobbly. Later today I will find a corner of our garage where it can hibernate properly. I think this may well be my final butterfly sighting of the year!
