Stenness
DDW's December Challenge Day 4 : A mystery
Today, in Orkney, the weather has been vile. The wind has increased steadily and there have been frequent heavy rain and hail showers. It is due to get a lot worse. However I managed a brief patch of blue sky for this shot of the standing stones at Stenness.
The Stones of Stenness is the oldest ring of standing stones in Orkney and the stones are huge - the highest is about 19 feet (6 metres). Its an impressive thing to look at. The reason it is there, I suspect, will forever be a mystery.
