DDW's December Challenge Day 5 : History

Years ago, when Mum and Dad moved into a new house, a friend commented that the fireplace in the sitting room looked very bare and would look so much better with an old shotgun hanging on it. He gave them the shotgun - a very old gun that was really beyond any safe use. Neither Mum nor Dad have ever been involved with any form of shooting, but they liked the gun hanging over the fireplace.
Right up until some little oik broke into the house and stole it, along with a bunch of other things. The hooks above the fireplace remained bare, as we pondered where the gun had gone to.
When they moved to Orkney they decided that it would be nice to have another one, and so this gun hangs above the door of the sitting room. The barrels are plugged and it can never be used again. It is beautifully engraved and I wonder where it has been in its long life...
